About Us

Previously known as EAC After School Clubs, our Out of School Childcare provision was rebranded as OSCARS in December 2009. Recognised as a leading childcare provider, we have been operating out of school care in Edinburgh and the Lothians since 1992.

We currently operate and manage 19 after school clubs from 16 registered services, 14 breakfast clubs and offer holiday provision during in-service, mid-term, Easter and summer holiday periods from a number of venues.

All OSCARS staff are dedicated to delivering the highest possible care to your child, and put the needs of the children first. All of our staff are required to undergo mandatory induction training delivered by our Play Leaders.

OSCARS work alongside various training partners to ensure training courses are delivered throughout the year. The courses may include such topics as Child Protection, Food Hygiene, Enriching Play, Emergency First Aid and Dealing with Challenging behaviour.

Whilst in clubs our staff are encouraged to use their skills and knowledge in order to facilitate play and activities within the clubs. This leads to a varied, fun and safe environment for your child to participate in.

Our OSCARS staff are required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and undertake a relevant childcare qualification such as an SVQ 2/3 in childcare or equivalent. Staff undertaking qualifications are given a mentor for their course duration and have a platform to share their knowledge with other staff.

OSCARS staff are recruited based on competencies for each role that they apply for. These are based on the care standards as set by the care inspectorate and have the welfare of the children as the key factor.

Staff undergo an interview with OSCARS senior team and are chosen for their experience, professionalism, friendliness, enthusiasm, and suitability for the role they are being employed to undertake. All are PVG (protecting vulnerable groups) checked and employment references are followed up.

All of our clubs are visited regularly by a member of our Operational Head Office team on a weekly basis, and ensure that all of OSCARS clubs are running to standards expected by the company and the care inspectorate.

We regularly provide staff with one-to-one development sessions with their managers and encourage all to use our head office as a base for learning.

Friendly, approachable staff who show a genuine interest in the kids’ welfare, and provide a clear line of communication with the school.

With a mix of kids from different primary schools and varying ages, it’s lovely seeing them all play and talk together. My children always come away happy!

The staff are popular with the children and can be relied on by parents. They are also flexible and happy to help with adhoc short notice requests for help.
