OSCARS are now recruiting for their 2018 Holiday Programmes.

OSCARS is a leading childcare provider in Edinburgh and the Lothians, operating out of school childcare during school term time and holidays.

Holiday programmes are open from 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday throughout the Easter & summer holidays at various locations in Edinburgh including Blackhall Primary School and George Heriot’s School, and in Glasgow at Hutchesons’ Grammar School.

We invite staff applications with regards all of our holiday programmes in particular from those individuals who are enthusiastic, motivated, responsible and enjoy working with children and teenagers, or individuals who wish to pursue a career in childcare or teaching and have a real desire to work with children and have previous day camp or residential camp experience.


Our Roles

Holiday Programmes

We have a number of specialist roles available for each of our multi activity holiday programmes.

We are looking for applicants who have some previous experience of working with children aged 5-14 in a similar setting and can bring enthusiasm, interaction with the children and creative thinking into an OSCARS holiday programme.

You may be a Drama student, a Sports coach, or a Music teacher, and you will be encouraged to use your skills to enrich the programme at each of the holiday programme locations.

Managerial staff will be required to attend an induction / set up day prior to each day camp. For Easter this is being held on Saturday 23rd March and summer on Saturday 23rd June.

For all other staff you will be required to complete online training and attend a camp set-up day on the Saturday prior to the camp start date.

Camp Manager

The Camp Manager reports to an OSCARS Operations Manager and is responsible for managing all aspects of  the Holiday Programme. You will be responsible for the overall safety of the camp, the support and motivation of your staff, customer care, problem solving and liaison with the host site and OSCARS head office.

Previous managerial experience within a day camp setting is required along with knowledge of health & safety procedures within a childcare environment.

Preferably you will hold a teaching or relevant childcare qualification

Up to 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 7.45am-6.00pm

Activities Manager

As second in charge of the Camp you will co-ordinate and support the Group Captains and Activity leaders for the various age groups and be the link between camp management and the staff team.

You will be a great motivator and keep staff morale high at camp. You will assist with timetabling, give advice to colleagues on activities and be responsible for creating some great ideas for activities and events to be held at camp.

​You should be a very enthusiastic person, be a born organiser and have a real desire to make the children’s holiday experience a fantastic one.

Up to 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 7.45am-6.00pm.

Group Captain

As a Group Captain you will have the responsibility for the welfare of a particular age group of children both during and outside activity times. You will add the direction to make each day a success.

Initiating and instructing games and activities play a large part in a Group Leader’s day, along with equipment preparation and ensuring the welfare needs of all children are met. You will guide and delegate responsibilities to your Activity Leaders throughout the day and ensure that the children safety and fun is at the forefront throughout their time at the camp.

Up to 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 7.45am-6.00pm

Activity Leader

A successful Activity Leader will be able to confidently lead a variety of activities, sports sessions and day trips. You will be allocated to one of 3 or 4 different age groups and you will stay with this group throughout each day. Activity sessions are held on site at each of our clubs and include supervised arts and crafts, sports & games, wide games, challenges and performing arts. There will also be time for free play at certain points during the day. Children could also go on a  number of external visits and off-site excursions throughout the programme.

You will report to your Group Captain and are expected to keep the children safe, enthusiastic and motivated throughout their day at camp.

A Lifeguard will be NPLQ qualified (or equivalent) and will be expected to supervise the swimming sessions which will take place at a local pool. Swimming will take place 3 times per week in the mornings and afternoons.
