OSCARS @ Buckstone opened in August 2001. The Breakfast Club is based from the dining hall within Buckstone Primary School. The After School Club has two bases. The first is as above in the school dining hall, the second is based from St Fillan’s church. Both the breakfast and after school clubs are open to children in classes P1 – P7 attending Buckstone Primary School.
OSCARS breakfast club operates from the school dining hall and opens at 7.30am each morning from Monday to Friday. A nutritious breakfast is served by staff, and children can play a variety of games until the start of the school day. OSCARS staff escort children to their relevant meeting point at the commencement of the school day.
The After School Club
Our after school care provision operates from two locations, St Fillan’s Church and the dining hall within Buckstone Primary School.
Children attending St Fillan’s are collected from Buckstone Primary School by OSCARS staff before making the short walk to the club using the safest route available.
Children are collected at the end of the school day, with our St.Fillan’s site open until 6.00pm and the school site closing at the slightly earlier time of 5.45pm. The club offers a wide range of activities, and following consultation with the children, a weekly programme of events and activities is planned.
Each afternoon, children receive a nutritious snack and drink which varies from day to day and the snack menu is displayed on a weekly basis at the club. Unlimited drinks are available throughout the afternoon.
OSCARS staff all wear OSCARS uniform consisting of orange polo shirt, orange fleece and ID badge. They collect children in classes P1 – P3 from their classrooms, while older children are greeted at the club base for those attending Buckstone Primary School and in the courtyard area outside the dining hall for those attending St Fillan’s.
The programme takes into account the time of year, and incorporates special occasions and multi-cultural celebrations and at regular intervals will include theme weeks. Activities offered always include arts & crafts, physical activities and imaginative play, and the programme is always clearly displayed for all children/parents/carers to see.
Resources such as sports equipment, arts and crafts materials, board games, books, dressing up clothes and pretend play equipment are readily available daily.
Occasionally, the children will enjoy an off-site activity, such as a trip to a local park, cinema, bowling etc. Details of these activities will be communicated to children/parents/carers in advance.
During school holiday periods, OSCARS operate a full day activity programme from the nearby Pentland Primary School.
