OSCARS @ East Craigs opened in 2005. The Breakfast Club is based from the dining hall within East Craigs Primary School. The After School Club has two locations and is based in the dining hall within East Craigs Primary School as well as the East Craigs Church Centre. Both the breakfast and after school clubs are open to children in classes P1 – P7 attending East Craigs Primary School.
OSCARS breakfast club operates from the school dining hall and opens at 7.30am Monday to Friday. A nutritious breakfast is served by staff, and children can play a variety of games until the start of the school day. OSCARS staff escort children to their relevant meeting point at the commencement of the school day.
After School Club
The After School Club has two locations and is based in East Craigs Church Centre and in the school dining hall.
Children attending East Craigs Church Centre are collected from East Craigs Primary School by OSCARS staff before making the short walk to the church centre. Children in classes P1 – P2 are collected from their classrooms, while P3-P7 children make their way to the school library, where they will be met by OSCARS staff.
Children attending the club based in the school dining hall are collected from their classrooms if they are in P1-P2, while older children make their own way to the hall.
The club commences from the end of the school day until 5.45pm Monday to Friday (school site open until 5.30pm, Monday – Thursday). The club offers a wide range of activities, and following consultation with the children, a weekly programme of events and activities is planned.
On a Monday to Thursday on arrival, and on a Friday mid-afternoon, children receive a nutritious snack and drink which varies from day to day and the snack menu is displayed on a weekly basis at the club. Unlimited drinks are available throughout the afternoon.
OSCARS staff all wear OSCARS uniform consisting of orange polo shirt, orange fleece and ID badge.
The programme takes into account the time of year, and incorporates special occasions and multi-cultural celebrations and at regular intervals will include theme weeks. Activities offered always include arts & crafts, physical activities and imaginative play, and the programme is always clearly displayed for all children/parents/carers to see.
Resources such as sports equipment, arts and crafts materials, board games, books, dressing up clothes and pretend play equipment are readily available daily.
Occasionally, the children will enjoy an off-site activity, such as a trip to a local park, cinema, bowling etc. Details of these activities will be communicated to children/parents/carers in advance.
In service day and mid term childcare provision is offered and will take place at Blackhall Primary School or one of OSCARS childcare venues in the EH4 area depending on facility availability.
